Andrew George Siegner Jr

January 9, 1925 — May 15, 2021

Andrew George Siegner, Jr (Andy) loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend died on May 15, 2021. Andy was 96 and enjoyed his life to the fullest. He was a devoted life-long member of First Baptist Church of Sanford. Andy was listed on the cradle roll in 1925, making him the longest continuous member. He served as an usher for many years and enjoyed hosting several picnics for his Sunday school class at his family farm. He was very proud of the fact that his great grandmother, Anna Catherine Rogers, was a charter member of First Baptist and his family has maintained membership for over 125 years. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Tuesday (5/18/2021) at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday beginning at 12:30 in the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church. For those who may not be able to attend, the service will be live streamed from the First Baptist Church website. Andy was born in Sanford on January 9, 1925, to the late Leila Bobbitt Siegner and Andrew George Siegner, Sr. As a boy, Andy had a Tom Sawyer spirit which continued throughout his life. He loved spending time outdoors camping, hunting, fishing, and playing his harmonica.  He played baseball on school teams and after he returned from World War II, he played for the Sanford Spinners semi-pro team. He was a Boy Scout earning the rank of Star Scout. After graduating from Sanford High School, Andy joined the US Navy. He served in World War II on the USS Albemarle in the South Pacific, where he learned the printing trade and operated his own small shop on the ship. On February 28, 1945, during a furlough, Andy and the love of his life, Audrey met at the Seaboard Railroad Depot in Sanford where they boarded a train to Cheraw, SC. They were married at the Methodist parsonage and recently celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary. In 1946, Andy continued pursing the printing trade. He was hired to work at Jones Printing Co. which he and his wife Audrey eventually purchased in 1967 and successfully ran the printing business until they retired. Andy had a servant’s heart and through his quiet leadership he served his community in various ways.   He was a member of the Sanford Civitan Club for many years and led a fundraiser to build a clubhouse on Golf Course Lane. Through his life of service, he built 384 wheelchair ramps for families and individuals in Lee County. He received the Governor’s Volunteer Award for this work. In Andy’s retirement you could find him in various places including caring for his vegetable garden at the family farm, working in his woodshop making beautiful “Papa’s Crafts” which included his infamous Christmas reindeer, fishing his secret fishing holes to prepare for a fish fry that night, or playing harmonica for his family and publicly with Sanford’s Tuesday Night Music Club. However, his most treasured times were spent hosting friend and family gatherings with food, music, games (including baseball in the cow pasture), and lots of story telling of old times mixed with laughter.  Whether work, service, or hobbies, Andy displayed his unwavering faith in God and a Christian love for all. Andy is survived by his wife of 76 years, Audrey Thomas Siegner; his children: Andrew G. Siegner III (Bonnie) of Bear Creek, NC; Carolyn S. Spivey (David) of Sanford, NC; and Judith S.
