Ann S. Thompson, 85, and wife of the late Ned Thompson, died September 27, 2018 of natural causes at a local assisted living facility.
In Sanford, Ann was a long time employee working as an Administrative Assistant with the Lee County School System before retiring. A native of Morganton, NC Ann was the daughter of the late Lannie Eugene Smith and Willie McGimpsy Smith. Ann graduated from Morganton High School and was known for her enthusiasm as a cheerleader. Rightly so, considering her high school sweetheart and late husband Ned, played baseball and football all four years. Ann and Ned were married in 1952 and shortly thereafter Ann followed him to various bases during his enlistment in the United States Air Force. Later, she traveled across NC in pursuit of Ned’s passion for education as a Principal. At home Ann was known for her cooking, sewing, knitting, reading and wrangling three rambunctious boys that kept her away from her hobbies… except for cooking.
She is survived by her sons Alex and his wife Sheila, Gil and his wife Patricia and Lee and his wife Becky. She has six grandchildren Meagan, Jared and his wife Kato, Samantha, Joshua, Henry and Stuart. She is also survived by her sister Jane Hord of Morganton, NC.
