Anne Ellen Presbyterian Proctor

Anne Ellen Crowder Proctor, 81 of Sanford passed away Friday October 12, 2018. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday October 17, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. There will be a reception immediately following the service.

The family is thankful that her passing came suddenly, without suffering. She spent the final weeks before her death comfortably at home, in the care of her longtime caregiver, Shameka Dowdy. She was attended at the hospital at the time of her death by the family of her nephew, Kirk Bradley, Deanne Bradley, and Aidan Bradley of Chapel Hill.

Mrs. Proctor was born in Laurel, MS, the daughter of the late William Napoleon Crowder and Annie Mae Dunn Crowder. Her family moved to Sanford when she was 12 and she remained a Sanford resident all her life. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where for many years she was an active participant in Thursday Morning Bible Study and Keenagers. She enjoyed her membership in her Chicora Literary Club, Birthday Club, and the Hampton Ponds Homeowners Association.

She was a 1959 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduation, she became a primary school teacher in the Lee County public school system. Later, she worked in the Employment Security Commission in Lee County. She spent most of her career as a mother and homemaker, but remained devoted to education, serving occasionally as a substitute teacher.

Mrs. Proctor is survived by her son, Frank E. Proctor, and his wife Ellen and granddaughter May Lee Proctor of Hong Kong; her brother Robert F. Crowder and his wife Cindy of Rocky Mount; and her sister-in-law Patricia Bradley of Chapel Hill.
