Betty O’Neal McLeod went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 9, 2017. She was born on October 1, 1940 to the late John Anderson O’Neal and the late Jenny Lou Watson O’Neal. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Graham McLeod, Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Vickie Annette McLeod, and her son, Gerald Graham McLeod, Jr.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:30pm Sunday at Rogers Pickard Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Larry Martin
Mrs. McLeod married her high school sweet heart, Gerald, Sr., on June 2, 1961. During this time she worked at Roses’ Dime Store on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill and later, at Koury Company in Sanford to help put her husband through College. Much of her work life outside the home was in Retail Sales. She held retail sales positions with J. C. Penney and later management positions with the Diana Shops and the Clothes Line. Her final career outside the home was in Real Estate Sales, where worked with members of her family to form McLeod and Associates – a Real Estate Sales and Residential Construction Company.
After the death of her husband in 2010, her primary focus in life continued to be the happiness and well-being of her family. However, she also became involved in Shepherd’s Flock Baptist Church. Along with others in the Church, she worked tirelessly to raise funds for a Sanctuary. These efforts included selling tickets to numerous chicken and barbeque dinners, preparing numerous meals, baking many pies and cakes, as well as conducting numerous yard sales. She also received much pleasure from singing in the Church choir. Her involvement in this Church provided much spiritual growth and brought much joy to her life.
To most accurately describe her roles as both a Home Maker and Working Mother, one must go beyond the typical definitions. While she performed the usual household duties of most home makers, her role also involved assuring both the spiritual and physical well-being of her family by providing nourishment to both body and soul. During her life, her family was always assured of her never-ending love and devotion – a love and devotion so strong, that she was truly a “Mother Grizzly.”
Mrs. McLeod’s love and devotion for the canine members of her family cannot go unmentioned. She was a loving ‘’Nannah” to her grand-dogs - Sam, Grettah, Clarice, Divah, Lacy and Rocky.
The family will receive friends following the Memorial service and other times at 3405 Winterwind Circle, Sanford.
Memorial contributions can be made to Shepherd’s Flock Baptist Church Building Fund, 19 Moon Dabbs Dr, Snow Camp, NC 27349.
