Cary Everette Bradley Sr, 91 of Sanford passed away Saturday July 2, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday at First Baptist Church. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am Wednesday in the Church Parlor. Burial will follow services at Buffalo Cemetery.
Mr. Bradley was the son of Carey Pierce Bradley and Mary Malinda Byrd Bradley. He was born in Lee County on a farm near Broadway, NC in 1930 during the great depression.
After graduating from high school, he worked on the farm until he was drafted into the army. After basic training, he served most of his time at White Sands Proving Ground in New Mexico which continues to be a guided missile base. He was honorably discharged as Sargent in 1955 at Fort Bliss, Texas and entered East Carolina University.
In 1957 he married Frances Glenn Cahoon. He graduated from East Carolina University in 1959 and they moved to Sanford, NC.
Some years later he earned a Masters degree from NC State University. He taught at Lee County High School and later became Vocational Education Director of the Lee County school district. He also taught a number of extension classes for NC State. He retired in 1991 after 32 years of service with Lee County Schools. He also served for 15 years on the Board of Directors for Lee County Industries.
After retiring and raising three children, Everette and Fran traveled across the United States seeing northern and southern states plus Mexico and Canada. They also enjoyed 25 years of living at the beach during the summer months where they made many new friends, enjoyed fishing and experiencing a way of life at the coast. During the winter months, he enjoyed making 18th century furniture for his and his children’s homes.
Everette was a member of Sanford First Baptist Church and Brotherhood Sunday School Class and served as a deacon and on many committees. The church was a central part of Everette and Fran’s family life.
Everette was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Cahoon Bradley, and sister Eugenia Thompson. Surviving are his children Glenda E. Bradley of Zion Crossroads, VA, Suzanne Hachmeister (Chip) of Greenville, NC, Cary E. Bradley, Jr. of Greenville, NC. and brother Marshall N. Bradley (Hazel) of Broadway, NC., four grandchildren: Chase Hachmeister (Janey) of Greenville, NC., Frances Lippitt of Boise, Idaho, Natalie Evans (Andrew) of Richmond, VA, and Cariann Bradley of Nashville, Tenn.
