Charles Edward “Bucky” Phillips, 86 of Sanford passed away Tuesday March 16, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday (3/19/2021) at Cool Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Mr. Phillips was born in Chatham Co, a son of the late Robert Anderson Phillips and Eutha Hilliard Phillips. He was preceded in death by sisters, Edna Kate Durham (Hubert), Frances Crowson (Wayne), Bobbie Jean Atkins (Harold “Boots”), Naomi Perry (AJ), and Ann Womack (Johnny); brother-in-law Carl Wilkie (Glenda).
Bucky was a graduate of Goldston High School and a Veteran of the US Army. He was owner and operator of Crowson & Phillips Exxon service station for 31 years. He was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Director, Usher, and served on numerous committees over the years. Mr. Phillips volunteered with Highway to Healing and was a member of the Sanford Lions Club for more than 50 years.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Frances Rae Wilkie Phillips; children, Joy Phillips Thompson, and son David Anderson Phillips; grandchildren, Phillip Thompson, and Zachary Thompson; many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Charles Wilkie (Thelma).
The family will greet friends starting at 10:00 am Friday in the Fellowship Hall of Cool Springs Baptist Church.
