Christopher Robert Kinkade was born in Phoenix, AZ. on June 11, 1975. He died on June 3, 2016 in Southern Pines, N.C.
He was the son of Bob Kinkade and Deborah Schmidt Kinkade.
He enlisted in the Army in April 1999 and served until May of 2006. He was trained as an administrative specialist and reached the rank of Sergeant. He specialized in that field and became an executive administrative assistant and driver, which means he worked only for Colonels and Generals.
He was first stationed at Ft Bragg, NC, then served overseas. In Korea he was an executive assistant, and driver for 8th US Army Headquarters G1.
His next assignment was to Ft Hood, TX where he served in the Third Corps Headquarters. He deployed to Baghdad, Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom 2 in 2004 where he was driver and assistant for Multi-National Corps Iraq (MNC-I) Secretary of the Joint Staff.
Chris was injured a number of times, including multiple convoy attacks and having his living quarters destroyed by a rocket. I quote from his best friend and comrade in arms, Ashley Jenkins, "I remember that incident because I was terrified for him. We finally had a few hours of rest from work. I had found some sodas; we were going to meet at his quarters to watch a movie. When I arrived, his trailer had been replaced by a giant, smoking hole in the ground. I walked around, for an hour, sure he was lost. When I went to his office I discovered he was in medical and that his trailer had been destroyed. Luckily he was not badly injured but his friend and roommate was killed. Chris was devastated.”
For his service around the world Chris was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. Korea Service Medal, Army Service Medal, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
He was honorably discharged from the Army in May 2006.
As a result of his injuries and the pressures of combat he suffered from PTSD.
He is survived by his Father, Bob Kinkade and Step-Mother, Shirley Kinkade and a brother Donovan Kinkade, all of Las Vegas, NV. many friends, comrades from the Army and other veterans.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Dorothy Kinkade.
