Cleo Lena Wood

January 9, 1924 — February 5, 2018

Cleo Lena Marion Wood, 94, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday February 5, 2018. She was born in Surry County on January 9, 1924 to the late Jerry and Nettie Marion and was the last surviving sibling of fourteen children. In 1945, she married Jesse Raymond Wood who predeceased her. Cleo was also preceded in death by her daughter Nora Wood Wallace and great grandson Jackson Wood.

 

She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Don and Melanie Wood of Sanford and Carl and Sherry Wood of Pinehurst. Also surviving her are three grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.

 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February8th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Don & Melanie Wood, 6027 Carbonton Road, Sanford. Graveside service will be on Friday, February 9th at 11:00AM at Beaver Creek Baptist Church where Cleo was a charter member. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Health Hospice Foundation, 150 Applecross Rd, Pinehurst, NC 28374; or Beaver Creek Baptist Church, 2280 Nicholson Rd, Cameron, NC 228326, in memory of Cleo.

 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Tara Plantation for the exemplary care provided to Cleo during the past four years and to First Health Hospice for their compassion and care during her final days.
