Dorothy F. Hopper Glass

April 28, 1929 – Feb. 14, 2025

Dorothy F. Hopper Glass, a devoted wife, loving mother, and caring friend, passed away from earthly life on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025. She was 95.

Known by friends as Dot, she was a lifelong Sanford resident. Her faith in God and Jesus as her Lord and Savior served as her foundation through all the seasons of her life. After graduating from Sanford High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Fred T. Glass. Together, they built a beautiful life as faithful companions and helpmates in a marriage that spanned 71 years, until his death in 2019.

Dot found joy in simple pleasures. She loved feeding and watching birds in the yard; growing vegetables in a backyard garden (many of them award winners at the Lee County Fair); cooking tasty meals for her family (her “lemon fluff” was divine!); and fishing with Fred for largemouth bass in nearby rivers and lakes.

Dot was a lifelong member of Sanford’s First Baptist Church. One of her favorite Bible verses was John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. She is celebrating now in heaven, joining the angels along with Fred and other loved ones who passed before her, including her elder son, David T. Glass; her parents, Edgar H. and Lonie Hopper; and her brother, Rowland Hopper.

Dot is survived by her son Jon Glass (Elizabeth), of Norfolk, Virginia; daughter-in-law Connie Glass of Sanford; grandchildren Joni, Jason (Christy), Kevin (Jamie), Isabel, and Stella; and great grandchildren Molly, Sam, Malia, Makoa, Zachary, and Zane.

Condolences may be sent to rogerspickard.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army of Lee County (https://southernusa.salvationarmy.org/wake/lee-county-army/); to the First Baptist Church general fund; or to the church’s mission partnership with Armenia at https://fbcsanford.org/.

A memorial service is planned for a later date.
