Duane Howard McCartney

Duane Howard McCartney, 84 of Sanford passed away Friday, September 13, 2019. A Memorial service will be held at 12:00pm Thursday, September 19 at Cool Springs Baptist Church.

Duane was born on January 5, 1935 in Kankakee, IL, son of the late Howard Albert Fay McCartney and LaVona Vivian Brinkman McCartney. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rodney McCartney and an uncle, Paul Gresham. Duane was a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado and worked with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for many years. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a member of the American Legion and Cool Springs Baptist Church.  

Duane is survived by his wife, Nancy Denny McCartney; son, Matthew McCartney (Judy) of Richmond, VA; daughters, Shauna Leinbach of Glendale, WI and Kristen McCartney of Rochester, NY; grandchildren, Rebecca McCartney, Virginia McCartney, Micah Leinbach, and Joelle Leinbach; a brother, Brian McCartney (Lydia) of Charlotte; and a sister in law, Darlene McCartney of Virginia Beach, VA.

The family will greet friends beginning at 11:00am Thursday at Cool Springs Baptist Church.
