Edgar Ray Lanning

Edgar “Ray” Lanning Sr, 93 of Sanford passed away Tuesday January 3, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Friday at Poplar Springs United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.

Mr. Lanning was born in Lexington, NC a son of the late Jeffie Lee Lanning and Ada Leonard Lanning. He was preceded in death by his sister, Viola Hege, and brothers Odell Lanning and Frank Lanning. He was a dairy farmer, a carpenter, a lover of animals and loved the outdoors. Mr. Lanning was always known for his positive attitude and was a pleasure to be around.

Mr. Lanning is survived by his beloved wife, Ruby Thomas Lanning; son, Edgar “Ed” Lanning Jr (Deborah) of Graham, and Steve Lanning of Sanford; grandchildren, Candy Long (John), Garth Lanning, Rachel Carlyle (Josh), Jacklyn Eggleton (Brennan), Matthew Lanning (Meagan), Jaycie Morton (Bret), step grandchildren, Wendy Cox (Brett), Andy Siegner (Tammy), Adam Siegner (Melissa), and Erin Bullis (Brandon), and many great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Church starting at 1:00pm Friday.
