Elizabeth Hairston “Betsy” Parnell, 86 of Sanford passed away Thursday March 16, 2017. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday (3/21/17) at St Francis Anglican Church.

Mrs. Parnell was born in Martinsville, VA daughter of the late William Lash Hairston Jr and Virginia McKiver Hairston. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. “Jim” Parnell, and her daughter, Jane Parnell Romani.

Betsy was a founding member of St. Francis Anglican Church and dedicated to its activities. She also spent many years working as a volunteer for Hospice in Moore County. Known to her friends as a woman who gave much more than she received, she was an accomplished hostess, a devoted friend, and doting grandmother to her only grandchild, Celia.

Mrs. Parnell is survived by her brother, William L. Hairston III (Shirley) of Hickory; granddaughter, Celia H. Romani; son in law, David (Betty) Romani of Durham; several nieces and nephew; six great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece and one great-great nephew.

The family will greet friends following the service.
