Elmer Gordon Oakes Jr

Elmer G. Oakes Jr, 92 of Raleigh formerly of Portsmouth, VA, passed away Thursday September 28, 2017. Graveside services will be held at the Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Mausoleum on Sunday at 2:00pm.

MR. Oakes was born in Smyth Co, VA son of the late Elmer Gordon Oakes Sr and Mattie Virginia Stephenson Oakes. He was preceded in death by his son Elmer Gordon Oakes III. Mr. Oakes was a WWII Veteran of the US Army serving with the 52nd Armored Division.

Mr. Oakes is survived by his granddaughters, Bonnie O. Hopkins (Chip) of Raleigh and Betsie O. Wilkinson (Wil) of Sanford; daughter in law, Kay L. Oakes of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Grace, Hunter, Parker, Harris and Lawson.
