Eugene "Gene" Hughes

Eugene “Gene” Hughes, 81, of Sanford’s Deep River Community went to be with the Lord on the evening of Wednesday October 23, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents Elvin Hughes and Ida Holland Hughes; grandson Jacob Pilson; and sister-in-law Debbie Hughes.

He is survived by his wife Louise Hughes; daughters Teresa Pilson (Tim) and Angela Diven (Jeff); son Timothy Thomas; grandchildren Shannah Pilson, Adam Diven (Tess), Ramsey Diven, Leaila Thomas, and Sabra Thomas; brother Billy Hughes; sister Lois Haithcox; niece Wendy Carlyle (Brian); great nephew Blake Carlyle and many other nephews, nieces, and cousins.

He is also survived by many friends which he made through a full life of running Gene’s Small Engine Repair Shop, selling antiques by the roadside, and training many loyal bird dogs. Gene served his country in the Army and consistently served his family and friends through his generosity, love, and devotion.

Per Gene’s wishes there will be no public services.
