Gaynell Hallett Fields

Gaynell “Gaye” Hallett Fields (née Arrington), age 92 years, passed away on December 12, 2018.

The oldest of 7 children and a child of the Great Depression, she was born in Madisonville, Virginia on April 15, 1926. Gaye ventured to Washington, DC in 1943 where at an accidental lunch table mix-up, she met her first husband and love of her life, Miles “Buddy” Hallett, of New Jersey. Their union lasted 45 years and produced 3 children: Carol Long of Virginia Beach, Virginia (deceased); Katherine Mullins of Berlin, Maryland; and Tom Hallett of Shady Side, Maryland. Miles’ and Gaye’s opportunities led them to reside in Chicago, Il, Roanoke, VA, the Maryland suburbs outside Washington, D.C., and ultimately Broadway, NC, where they relocated in the 1980s to be closer to Gaye’s mother and immediate family.

Gaynell was blessed with 5 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. After Miles’ passing in 1991, Gaynell married for the second time to Sanford, NC native Warren Fields in 1993. She and Warren shared a blessed union until his passing in 2009.

Gaynell had a voracious appetite for reading and music. In addition to two of her children, all of her grandchildren, and great-grandchild, Mrs. Fields is survived by her younger sister, Rebecca West of Spring Lake, NC, Bobby Arrington of Pittsboro, NC, and Herbert and Jackie Arrington, both of Chapel Hill, NC.

The funeral service will be held at the Rogers Pickard Funeral Home in Sanford, NC on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 2:00 pm.
