Gilbert Leo Desjarlais, Jr

CW4 Gilbert Leo “Bucky” Desjarlais Jr, US Army Retired, 67 of Sanford passed away Monday March 9, 2020. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday at Grace Chapel Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Gilbert was born in Greenville, NC, son of Carolyn Shelton Desjarlais and the late Gilbert Leo Desjarlais. Gilbert is proceeded in death by his son Stephen Glynn Desjarlais. He retired from the US Army in 1993 and enjoyed cooking and feeding people. He loved to play golf, go fishing, going to the shooting range, reading and the Carolina Hurricanes.

Mr. Desjarlais is survived by his wife, Sandra Johnson Desjarlais; a son Donny (Kelley) Desjarlais of Sanford; daughter April Clark (Jefferson) of Conn; Grandchildren; Daniel Desjarlais, Colleen Clark, Christian Desjarlais and Jacqueline Clark; Siblings; Theresa Gardiner (Doug) of Okla.; Mary Ciske (Bruce) of Va.; Dr. Edward Desjarlais (Juli) of Sanford; Jean Napier (Bryan) of Ga; Greg Desjarlais of Ga.; William ”Bill” Desjarlais (Dava) of Md.; and Bernadette Maynard (Bryan) of Ga.

The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 am Saturday at the Church prior to the Funeral service.
