Gilbert Harold Preslar III passed away on Saturday January 22nd at the age of 69 after a long battle with dementia.
Gilbert was born in Raleigh, NC to the late Gilbert Harold "Buck" Preslar Jr and Reca Mae Medlin Preslar on October 15th 1952. He grew up in Raleigh and lived in Raleigh, Apex, Carpenter (Cary) and Fuquay-Varina. He attended Cary High School. Gilbert helped his father in the family business, G.H Preslar & Son as a child and worked at the Food Lion on Kildare Farm Rd in Cary as a clerk in the late 1970's until the mid 1980's when he went to work for AVIS rent a car at RDU Airport cleaning the rental cars that were returned. He loved his job at AVIS and enjoyed his friendship with coworkers. Gilbert never married nor had any children, instead he devoted his time looking after his mother Reca and spending any free time working on cars, watching TV, driving his 1972 Ford Pinto and 1980 Mercury Bobcat. He also enjoying time with family, brother Van and sisters Wilma and Cathy. He was very close to Cathy and her son, Brian. Gilbert had a heart of gold and was a very kind and gentle soul. He was a good friend and always willing to help anyone in need. Gilbert led a simple life but he has left a big void in the hearts of those who truly loved him.
He is preceeded in death by his grandparents Gilbert Harold Preslar Sr, Annie Belle Capps Preslar, Eli Medlin and Maide Lenora Cone Medlin. Both of his Parents. Brother CPT Vannie (Van) Dexter Preslar. Uncles Phillip Wayne, Vannie Hillard, Bennie Ray, Eli David Medlin. Aunts Wilma Medlin Mash, Barbara Ann Medlin. 2nd cousins Carol Dowling and Charles Cone. Brother in law H. Kent Craig. He is survived by his Sisters Cathy Mae Preslar, Wilma Lou Preslar Franklin and her husband Phillip. Sister in law Diane Wright Preslar. 2nd cousin Harold Dowling. Uncles Donnie Earl and Jackie Medlin. Aunts Madene Medlin Jones and Ardelia Medlin Brown and her husband Ray. Nephews Brian S. Craig, Mark Preslar, Michael Preslar. Neice Andrea Franklin.
I (Brian S. Craig) would like to thank the staff of Universal Healthcare of Lillington for the great care they provided for Gilbert over the years. Many of the staff expressed their sympathy over the last few weeks and all said that Gilbert was a very sweet man and he will be greatly missed. I would also like to thank Heartland Hospice for the additional care they provided, it was very much appreciated.
A graveside service will be held at Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford on Friday January 28th 2022 at 1:00pm All are invited to attend.
