Grace Poe Harris

Grace Murchison Poe Harris, 101 passed away Friday May 26, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Monday at Rogers Pickard Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery.

Mrs. Harris was born in Chatham Co daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. T. Percy Murchison Sr. She was preceded in death by husbands, Richard H. Poe Jr and John H. Harris; a daughter, Sylvia Poe Crowder; brothers, W. Harold Murchison, T. Percy Murchison Jr, Wade Barber Murchison, Robert Merrill Murchison, and Charles Everette Murchison.

Mrs. Harris was a former Worthy Matron of the Sanford Chapter of the Eastern Star, taught Sunday school for many years and was a Girl Scout Leader. During the Great Depression she attended the School of Nursing at Middlesex University in Middlesex, NJ. For many years she worked at the Fabric Center and later Home Fashions, designed head pieces for brides and brides maids, and designed window treatments. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of three different clubs and taught many how to play. She was an avid reader and loved to travel and had visited most of the European Capitals.

Mrs. Harris is survived by her daughter, Cornelia Poe Olive of Sanford; grandchildren, Rick (Pam) Olive of Olivia, Ronald D. Olive of Myrtle Beach, SC, Susan Crowder Peeples, Stephen Crowder and John R Crowder all of Ga; five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

The family will greet friends starting at 1:00pm Monday at the funeral home.
