Harry Van Horn Evans

Harry V. Evans of Sanford, NC passed away on April 1^st, 2023.  He was 89 years old.

 He was married for 60 years to his loving wife Gloria. He was born in Brookville, PA and graduated from high school in Harrisburg, PA.  Harry joined the Navy and served as a Radio Operator during the Korean War.  After leaving the Navy he attended Grove City College, PA and Syracuse University, where he met Gloria.  Harry worked for New York Telephone Company in upstate NY for over 25 years.  Harry held many different positions in the phone company, his last was leading a digital switching engineering department.  Harry was very active in the telephone company Pioneers philanthropic organization, holding several leadership roles and traveling around the country.  It seemed anywhere Harry went somebody knew him from the phone company. “Hey Harry!” could be heard in airports and hotels around the country.

Harry was a devoted father and grandfather, never missing a game, recital, graduation or other functions too numerous to name.  He encouraged his children to do their best and never give up on their dreams.

Harry and Gloria retired to Sanford, NC where they enjoyed many happy years. Harry pursued his passion for golf as a member of Carolina Trace Country Club. He logged 3 holes-in-one, all after age 70.  Harry is certainly teeing it up everyday with his golf buddies in heaven.

Harry is survived by his wife Gloria, son Patrick and daughter-in-law Maria, daughter Nancy Belscher and son-in-law Michael, granddaughter Emma Belscher, nephews Christopher and Joseph Tosh and their families as well as many friends and extended family members.

Harry was pre-deceased by his mother Jane Van Horn Evans and his brother Robert Evans.

Services will be held on Saturday April 8^th at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home in Sanford, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm.
