Helga Müller Gunter

Helga Müller Gunter, 86 of Sanford passed away Saturday April 6, 2024. The family will greet friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Wednesday at Rogers Pickard Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 7:00. 

Helga was born in Wiesbaden Germany on February 9, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Jakob and Elizabeth Müller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Clifton Gunter, and her daughter, Cindy Johnson of Wellford, SC, and brothers, Rudi, Fred, Günther; and Helmut Müller.

Mrs. Gunter is survived by her daughter Ann Mitchell (Mark) of Sanford; her son, Tom Gunter of Pittsboro; brother, Manfred Muller (Ilka); nine grandchildren, Brandi Shackelford (Josh), Jonathan Mitchell (Hayley), Lonnie Müller, Joshua Müller, Sabrinia Müller, Sebastian Müller, Mack Johnson, Jennifer Taylor, and Shawn Johnson; eighteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Gunter spent her earlier life, after coming to the USA from Germany, raising her family and also keeping other neighbors’ children in her home. She was an avid fan of Elvis and daytime Soap Operas during her life along with her coffee, that she drank all day. She loved looking and tending to her flowers and feeding the birds, especially the hummingbirds when they came in the spring. She always enjoyed trying to play an April fool’s joke on you each year and on occasion, she would be very successful in pulling one off.

She will be missed by her entire family and especially her very close friend Alfreda Richardson.
