Irene Jordan

Irene Peck Jordan of Sanford died Friday surrounded by her family at her home.

A North Carolina native, she was a daughter of the late Irene and Lewis Peck. Memorial services are planned for 11:00am Tuesday at St Luke United Methodist Church. Visitation will precede the service at 10:00am in the Church Parlor.

She was active in the community, serving on the City of Sanford Appearance Commission, was a member of the hospital auxiliary, the Chicora Literary Club, Dogwood Garden Club, the Century Club, and numerous other social clubs. She loved writing poetry and was author of several children’s books. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Robert Calhoun Jordan Jr, a son R. Calhoun “Cal” Jordan III, and a sister, Nancy Conner.

Surviving are daughters, Karen J. (Mark) Barrett of Raleigh and Molly J (Chuck) Maness of Liberty Township, OH; a daughter-in-law, Cindy K. Jordan of Hillsborough; a brother, Lewis B. Peck Jr of Concord; sisters, Mary Anna Dunn of Greensboro, Betty Anthony of Winston Salem; seven grandchildren, Dave Barrett, Elizabeth B. Wenceslao, Caroline B. Hepler, Robert W. Jordan, Anna Brooks Reed, J. Taft Maness, and Cole R. Maness; eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
