Jacqueline "Jackie" Gaster

Betty Jacqueline “Jackie” Gaster died peacefully on October 29, 2018, at the age of 85, surrounded by her loved ones. Jackie was born on May 18, 1933 in Sanford, North Carolina and was proud to be a lifelong Sanford resident. She was the second child of Mary Stone Rives and Henry Wayne Rives, both of Sanford.

Jackie worked at Heins Telephone Company for 30 years until her retirement. She found joy in all people, especially little children. Jackie loved her family, country music, country cooking, catching doodle bugs, fishing, stray cats, hide and seek, hopscotch, pork rinds, the Dollar Tree, playing poker, betting on the temperature, looking at the moon, hiding Easter eggs, writing letters, sending plastic spiders in Halloween cards, talking with her best friend Grayson McLamb, and scratching off lottery tickets. 

In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by her brother Jimmie Wrenn Rives; her sister Barbara Jean Rives; and her niece Ginger Rives Pittman.

She is survived by her son, Anthony Wayne Gaster and wife April Williams Gaster and April’s daughter Jessica Lee Thompson; daughter Barbara Jean Gaster and Vicky Ann Lee; sister Sandra Rives Baker and husband Clyde Caro Baker, Jr.; granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Gaster; nieces Ashley Baker White and husband John Finley White III, Suzanne Baker Rice and husband Carey Brent Rice; nephews Denis Aaron Rives and wife Jane Atkinson Rives, Phillip Wrenn Rives and wife Marjorie Marie Rives, Howard Wayne Rives and wife Sarah Pearson Rives.

“Jackie Buster” will be missed most by her grandnieces and grandnephews, CB, Taylor, Mary Rives, John, Jack, and Suzie, who she endlessly entertained with her delightful imagination and stories about “old times.”

A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held at 11:00am Saturday November 17th at Shallow Well united Church of Christ.
