James Pennington "Jim" Mundy

Dr. James Pennington “Jim” Mundy Jr, 56 of Sanford passed away Monday May 23, 2022. A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Friday (5/27/2022) at First Baptist Church.

Jim was born in Florence, SC to Marjorie Donice Mundy and the late James Pennington Mundy Sr. He was a 1984 graduate of Lee County High School. He attended Western Carolina University during his undergraduate studies and received his Doctorate of Pharmacology from Campbell University, later earning his MBA from Pfeiffer University. Jim was passionate about improving the healthcare of his community which was evident by his time donated to the Helping Hands Clinic. He was instrumental in the planning and development of the new pharmacy at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. He enjoyed playing golf with family and the fellas on their annual golf trip. He had a passion for the mountains and while in College at Western Carolina he was a White Water Rafting Guide.

Dr. Mundy is survived by his wife, Angie T. Mundy; his children, Chelsea M. Thompson (Chris), Hailey Mundy (fiancé Alex) and Dylan Mundy; mother, Marjorie Donice Mundy; sisters, Jennifer M. Turlington (Kevin), and Jodie M. Shirley (Phil); his granddaughter, Tatum Thompson; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his brother, John Timothy Mundy.

The family will greet friends at Jim’s home.
