Joann Thomas

Joann Thomas, 74 of Sanford, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2018 at 12:30 P.M. at her residence surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday at Rogers Pickard Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Jonesboro Cemetery. 

She was born and lived in Sanford, a daughter of the late Leonor Thomas. In 1969, she moved to California with her husband who was in the Air Force. She moved back to Sanford to retire with her husband in 2001.  

Joann, along with her husband, owned a small business in California which they ran successfully for 20 years. She enjoyed gardening, baking and attending classic car shows across the country.  She attended Kendale Acres Freewill Baptist Church for the past 10 years. She had a strong faith in our Lord.  

Joann is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Michael Thomas; her daughter Judy Spear and her son-in-law Paul Spear, grandsons, Cole, Chad and Chase Spear of California; sisters Sandy Thomas and husband J.W. Lawson of Virginia, Linda Lay and husband Ken Lay of California, Nancy Hardy and husband David Hardy of Sanford and brother Buddy Thomas of Sanford, as well as many nieces and nephews.  

Joann is preceded in death by her mother Leonor Thomas, sister Ethel May Tippit, Brothers, George Thomas, Calvin Thomas and Roy Thomas.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00pm Wednesday prior to the Funeral Service.
