Joseph Carl Dawson Jr.

Joseph Carl Dawson, Jr 78 of Sanford passed away Sunday July 10, 2022. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Turners Chapel Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Mr. Dawson was born in Sanford, a son of the late Joseph Carl Dawson Sr and Lois Stevens Dawson. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Don Weber.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Amanda Thrasher (Stewart) of Birmingham, AL; a son, Joseph Carl Dawson III (Laura) of Germantown, TN; sister, Carolyn Weber of Centerville, MA; two grandchildren, Brinley and Harper Dawson.

Joe was very athletic, in high school he lettered in football, baseball and basketball. He was a star football player at Elon College playing offense, defense and a kicker. He was avid golfer, enjoyed hanging around Sanford Golf Club and Quail Ridge Golf Club, and could be found riding his bike to Fox Meadows in Memphis. He loved giving golf lessons to all the family. Joe never met a stranger, always had a big smile, Loved God and Church. Joe loved sweets, especially donuts and coffee. He loved westerns and cheesy chick flicks like Legally Blonde too, and Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. He loved wearing his straw hats.

The family will greet friends at 2:00 pm Saturday July 23,2022 at Turners Chapel Church prior to the funeral service.
