Josephine Floyd “Jo” Lane, 93 of Sanford, formerly of Fayetteville, was ushered into heaven on the wings of a prayer surrounded by love at 11:27 am Monday April 15, 2024. The family will greet friends at 10:00 am Monday April 22, 2024, in the Parlor at First Baptist Church, with the memorial service following in the Chapel at 11:00am.

Mrs. Lane was born on May 3rd, 1930, in Chadbourn, NC a daughter of the late Samuel Walker Floyd and Bessie Phillips Floyd. Jo was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked as a registered nurse from 1951 until 2007. She worked at Highsmith Hospital and Pittman Hospital in Fayetteville, and at Lee County Hospital and Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. She retired as Charge Nurse from CCH. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Sanford, and the Fidelis Eunice Rhyne Sunday School Class.

Jo was known for her self-sacrificial determination to accomplish her goals, humming her way through difficult circumstances. She was quick to find the fun in life, bubbling with contagious laughter. She found great joy in her family, and they adored her. The hospital staff with whom she worked became like a second family with many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leith Shufford “Buddy” Lane; granddaughter, Kristin Lane Kort; sisters Odessa Usher, Lila Floyd, Ruby Floyd Spivey, Magdaline Floyd Horton, and Carolyn Floyd Ayers; brothers Malcom Floyd and Alva H. Floyd.

Mrs. Lane is survived by daughter Donna Lane Parrish (Billy) of Sanford; son David Lane (Martha) of Pawleys Island, SC; daughter Debra Lane Gibson (Dr. Sidney) of Sanford; son Danny Lane (Dr. Lawone) of Southport; grandchildren Kelli Parrish Laudate (James), Adam Parrish (Dana), Ben Parrish (Rachel), Kristin Lane Kort, deceased (Sean), Elizabeth Lane Christopher (Seth), Kate Lane Bellamy (Scott), David Lane Jr. (Heather), Ashley Lane Brown Whitaker (Jeremey), Billy Gibson (Meredith), Michael Lane, and Claire Lane Andre (Michael); and great grandchildren Will Laudate, Laney Laudate, Carsen Laudate, Foster Parrish, Aidan Christopher, Madelyn Christopher, Evelyn Christopher, Clyde Bellamy, Joanna Bellamy, Samantha Bellamy, Benjamin Bellamy, Natalie Bellamy, Ellison Lane, Bennett Lane, Lochlan Lane, Grace Britton, Hannah Britton, Lauren Whitaker, Caroline Whitaker, William Gibson, Oliva Gibson, Parker Andre, and Campbell Andre.

The family would like to thank First Choice Healthcare, Parkview Retirement Village, Sanford Health and Rehab, Liberty Hospice, and all of Mom’s caregivers over the last several months. A special heartfelt thank you is also extended to Grace Melvin whose friendship and help was truly a gift to Mom and to our family.
