Kenneth E. McWhorter

Kenneth E. McWhorter, 70 of Sanford passed away peacefully on Friday February 10, 2017, at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst, with his wife and daughter by his side.

Ken was born in Liberty, South Carolina to Grace and Vincent McWhorter. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Sammy McWhorter and a nephew Brad McWhorter. He attended Clemson University and Greenville Technical College, then married his high school sweetheart. His business career stretched more than 40 years eventually settling the family in Sanford. He retired as Vice President of Distribution for J.T. Davenport & Sons and was a member of St Luke United Methodist Church and a proud honorary member of the Biddle Sunday School Class. He loved Jesus, the Tar Heels, Clemson and all things ACC. He loved golfing, fishing, and spending time in his yard, but most of all, he loved his family, friends, and neighbors.

He leaves behind a legacy of love in his wife of 47 years, Mary Jones McWhorter; daughter, Sara McWhorter Prevost and son in law Kevin of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Parker and Mason Prevost, the joy of his heart; four brothers, and sisters, Charles McWhorter, Richard McWhorter, Laura Caldwell, Joyce Sweatt and their families; three brothers-in-law Jim Jones, Lee Jones, and Rob Jones and their families and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at 1:00pm Saturday, February 18, 2017, at St Luke United Methodist Church followed by a Memorial service at 2:00pm.

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge all of the care, love, support, and prayers that he received during a long and incredibly courageous battle with cancer. Ever the optimist, Ken felt truly blessed his entire life.
