Lawrence Thomas Simpson, 82 of Sanford, passed away Friday January 13, 2017.
Lawrence was born in Lee County son of the late James and Emma Simpson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Doris Cameron Simpson, brothers, Howard and Robert Simpson and a sister, Ethel Smith.
Mr. Simpson was a 1953 graduate of Greenwood High School. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army for 21 years and 6months, retiring on June 30, 1976. Upon retirement, Lawrence entered the private sector work force as a loan officer at Piedmont Farm Credit. He also sold insurance and other securities and retired for a second time in 1998.
Lawrence was a member of Pocket Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Sunday School Teacher, Chancel Choir Member and was active in the Pocket Presbyterian Men. He was also a past member of the Sanford Kiwanis Club and the Lemon Springs Ruritan Club.
Mr. Simpson is survived by one son, Thomas and wife Sharon of Whispering Pines, daughter, Lynda Ward of Sanford; grandchildren, Sydney Simpson of Aberdeen, Erin Pearce and husband Jonathan of Knightdale, Kevin Ward and wife Kimberly of Gainesville, FL, Jeffrey Ward and wife Meredith of Sanford, and Matthew Ward of Sanford. He is also survived by a brother, Earl Simpson of Randleman and numerous nieces and nephews and a special caregiver Pauline Holland.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Pocket Presbyterian Church on Monday January 16th at 4:00pm by the Reverend David Dudley.
The family will greet friends following the memorial service in the Church fellowship hall and other time at the family home.
