Margaret Hardison Pruette - Feb 4,1928-April 18, 2023
After a brief illness, Margaret Hardison Pruette of Raleigh, formerly of Sanford, NC passed away on April 18 surrounded by her daughter Meg Averett and son Frank Pruette, Jr. Peggy was born in Wadesboro, NC, and was predeceased by her husband Frank Hancock Pruette, her father Hugh Bennett Hardison and mother Caroline McLendon Hardison as well as her brothers, Hugh Hardison and Mac Hardison.
Peggy and Frank were married for 60 years and always lived in NC as they often moved due to Frank’s 39 year employment with Carolina Power and Light company. They settled in Sanford in 1965, and she lived there until 2009, when she moved to Raleigh to be closer to her daughter Meg. Peggy was an active member of First Baptist Church in Sanford. She and Frank loved to travel with their “Oxford Group,” which met annually across the US and in Scotland for over 40 years as the men played golf, the women shopped, and then epic games of bridge ensued after dinner.
As much as she loved her friends, she was incredibly proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by Meg Averett, her sons William Nilan and Christopher Nilan (Julie), their children Charlotte, Caroline, Elizabeth, and Thomas, as well as her son Frank H Pruette, Jr and his wife Lorah Gibson Pruette, their daughters Mary Chandler Pruette and McLendon Pruette McGhee (Dylan) and their newborn daughter Paige.
