Marquis Wicker "Mark" Patterson

Marquis Wicker Patterson, (69) passed away on October 29, 2018 at home with family. He was born in Sanford, N.C. on November 25 1948, to Orus “Pat” Fuquay Patterson, Jr. and Sarah “Sally” Wicker Patterson.

At a later time a private Celebration of Life will be held.

He was preceded in death by his parents Pat and Sally Patterson. He is survived by his son, Walter Neill Patterson of Sanford, daughters Anna Christina Patterson of Sanford, Dr. Marie Davis Klish of Longmont, CO, Amy Patterson Crenshaw (Andrew) of Rolesville and his three grandsons. He is also survived by his brothers Orus Fuquay “Russ” Patterson III (Sara) and Joel Brent Patterson (Kim), and sister Mary Patterson Brinker (Bill), and many nieces and nephews.

Mark was an avid outdoorsman and was the happiest when he was one with nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and most of all horseback riding and training with his bird dogs. More than anything he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and love for these things. Throughout his life he worked hard and owned many successful businesses over the years, most recently NeillMark Wood Products a sawmill he operated along with his son.        

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Walthour-Moss Foundation, PO Box 1794, Southern Pines, NC 28388. A memorial fund for the reforestation of endangered North Carolina hardwood trees is in the process of being established in his memory. More information about this fund will be shared at a later time.
