Matthew Eugene Rathburn

Matthew Eugene Rathburn of Sanford died on Friday September 18, 2020. There will be a Graveside service held on Thursday September 24,2020 at Broadway Town Cemetery at 4:00PM.

Matthew is preceded in death by his parents Calvin Donald Rathburn and Janice Jones Rathburn; sister Ellen Mitchell and brother David Rathburn.

Mr. Rathburn is survived by his wife of thirty-one years Anita Hylton Rathburn; son Steven Rathburn and daughter Jennifer Rathburn all of Sanford; granddaughter Brooklynn Carter and grandson Rivers Patterson; also brothers William and Bruce Rathburn of West Virginia; and special family members, Caitlin Patterson and Christopher Cox.

Matthew was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and friend. He enjoyed fishing, going to the beach, spending time with his family, and his guns. He always gave a helping hand to those he loved and never expected anything in return. He touched the lives of so many people and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. 

Matthew was employed at Fortiline in Fayetteville, NC where he worked for 10 years. He thought highly of his coworkers and considered so many of them as family.
