Mazelle Thomas Langston, 102 of Sanford passed away Friday December 31, 2021, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
Mrs. Langston was born in Lee Co on February 1, 1919, to Burl Martin Thomas and Lizzie Wicker Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 year, T. J. Langston; her daughter, Kay McLeod; siblings, Mary Lee Thomas Foushee, Lucille Colebrook, Shelton Thomas and Billy Thomas.
She was a graduate of Sanford High School and the Pittman Hospital School of Nursing in Fayetteville, NC. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the former Lee County Hospital. While following her husband during the war years, she worked at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston and the Seattle General Hospital in Seattle, Washington. Back in Sanford, she worked at Lee County Hospital and for several years for Dr. Arthur James office and later retired from Doctors John and Elizabeth Dotterer’s office after 32 years.
She was a longtime member of First Congregational Christian Church, previously serving as a Deacon and Church Historian. Most recently was humbled when the Church’s History Room was named in her honor. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. She made the cross-country trips and traveled to Canada and Mexico.
Mrs. Langston is survived by her daughter, Janice L. Dossenbach and husband Alan of Sanford; grandchildren, Jeremy Dossenbach of Apex and Molly Ellis and husband Steven of Johns Island, SC; one great-granddaughter, Avery Ellis; many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday (1/6/2022) at Poplar Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Robert Thomas officiating.
