Nevaida Lyons Robinson of Richmond, VA died peacefully Wednesday, July 12, 2017 after a brief illness. She was 84. Prior to her move to Richmond, she was a 51-year resident of Sanford, NC
A Service of Worship to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, June 15 at 11:00am in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Sanford, NC with a time to visit with the family following the service in the Church Parlor.
She was born October 16, 1932 in Colleton County, SC to Edna Kinard Lyons and Berry Lee Lyons and was one of two children. She was predeceased in death by her parents as well as her brother, Burley Lawton Lyons, Sr. She was also predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Merritt B. Robinson.
Nevaida graduated from Walterboro (SC) High School in 1950. Following her graduation from South Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, she became a Registered Nurse and spent most of her life in that profession. During her years in Sanford, NC she served as a Clinical Instructor for Practical Nurses at Central Carolina Community College, an alcohol counselor at Sanford Medical Group and as a Registered Nurse for many years at Central Carolina Hospital, retiring from CCH in 1997. In addition to caring for many as a nurse, her other passions included attending UNC athletic events, singing, dancing at Century Club activities, and participating in bridge clubs meetings. Most of all, she was devoted to her husband, committed to raising her three boys, and being deeply involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Sanford and served the church in several capacities as Sunday School leader, Baptist Training Union coordinator and, most especially, as a long-time member of the Chancel Choir.
She is survived by her three sons, Dr. Burdette Robinson of Richmond, VA, Greg Robinson of Kennesaw, GA and his wife, Stephanie, and Bryan Robinson of Richmond, VA and his wife, Cathy, as well as eight grandchildren: Lindsey Robinson, Hannah Robinson, Justin Robinson, Jordan Robinson, Guy Jones, Sam Robinson, Josiah Robinson, and Toby Robinson - and one great-grandchild, Levi Robinson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church, 202 Summit Dr. Sanford, NC 27330.
A Committal service will be held Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at Buffalo Cemetery.
