Nilla “Dicke” Tredway Sloop, age 77, passed away on July 7 in Sanford, NC. She was born in Danville, VA, the daughter of Louis and Nilla Tredway. Survivors include her two daughters, Cris Sloop Godwin (Kevin) of Sanford, NC and Katie Sloop of Mount Pleasant, SC; sister Sarah Ellen Webster of Greeneville, TN; grandson Hunter Godwin of Raleigh, NC; loyal fat cat Juilette; and many loving family members and friends.
Dicke grew up in Chatham, VA with a close-knit community of family and friends. She attended Chatham Hall and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Converse College. She later moved to Sanford, NC where she lived for 47 years and was active in the community. Dicke retired from Wake County as the Director of Environmental Health.
Dicke loved to cook – always trying new recipes or creating her very own. She loved to travel, loved the beach, and most importantly, loved to laugh. Dicke never met a stranger. She “adopted” many children, young and old, as if they were her own. Nilla, Dicke, Dicke-Lou, Mama – we will miss you every day and will see you again.
