Patricia Washington

Patricia Washington 79, of Sanford, NC, died August 27, 2019 with her family by her side at Cambridge Hills in Pittsboro, NC.

She was born Patricia Csomay in 1940 in Norfolk, Virginia to Andrew Csomay and Patricia Shives.

Known to her family and friends as Patsy, Pat, Ms. Patricia, Grandma, Grandmommy and of course, Mom, she spent her early summers at her grandparents in Roanoke, VA or at Virginia Beach with her friends.  She graduated in 1958 from Norview High School in Norfolk.  After that, she attended the College of William and Mary, where she first spotted a tall 6’6” handsome basketball player, Jim Washington, met.  She always said it was love at first sight, but that he took awhile to convince. Obviously not too long, because they married.

After they married, they moved to Georgia and a number of cities in North Carolina. They bought their 1st home and put down permanent roots in Sanford, NC in 1979 with their daughters, Karen and Patti.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and worked with various charities in Lee County, including the Sanford Library Reading Program and Meals on Wheels.

Her interests included family, shopping, traveling and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy to being a caregiver and friend to others in need.

Mrs. Patricia is survived by her sister, Carol Csomay; brothers, John Csomay and Tom Csomay; 2 daughters and their spouses, Karen and Charles Wolfe,  Patti and Mike Hamilton; and 4 grandchildren; Charles and Stephen Wolfe and Cheyenne and Chelsea Cowley.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James (Jim) Washington.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 3pm in the Chapel of Rogers Pickard Funeral Home in Sanford, NC. Please join us for more Celebration of her Life at the Smoke and Barrel, located just around the corner from Rogers-Pickard at 120 Steele St. for some light appetizers and conversation around 5pm.

“In the spirit of our mom, who never was one to wear black, we ask that you consider wearing something more festive or colorful in her honor at the celebration. Whatever your attire we look forward to seeing you as we celebrate her life.”
