Randy Lynn Cox, 70, of Smithfield and Broadway, NC, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024 surrounded by his loving wife and daughter.

 

Randy was a 1971 graduate of Sanford Central High School. He attended CCCC where he earned his electrical license. Randy went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science at NC Wesleyan University.

 

Randy was a loving husband, father, Pawpaw, brother, uncle, and friend. Randy was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his family and friends. From traveling cross country, spending time at his mountain cabin, golfing at one of his favorite courses, or doing his Shriner duty dressed in his lion suit dancing in a parade, Randy lived life to the fullest and no one loved life more.

 

Randy’s career began in 1977 with CP&L working as an I & C Technician then promoted to Supervisor at the Cape Fear Plant. He then went on to take the position of Maintenance Manager at the Roxboro Plant. Randy was then promoted to Plant Manager of the HF Lee Plant. He then moved on to become a Traveling Maintenance Supervisor. Randy’s final position was held under Duke Energy as the Plant Manager for the Cape Fear Plant. He was responsible for closing the very plant he started his career at and then entered a bittersweet retirement in 2013.

 

Randy was a member of Fellowship Lodge #84 in Smithfield of which he served in several positions in the Lodge including Master of the Lodge in 2013 and a Trustee from 2014-2019. Randy was also a member of the Sudan Shriners and a member of the Johnston County Shrine Club. He served as its President and Club Treasurer for several years. He was also a member of the Sudan Animated Animals and proudly wore the Lions costume in support of the Shriners Children’s Hospitals.

 

Randy was preceded in death by his son, Gavin Lynn Cox; mother and father, Dot and Shorty; Cox; brother, Carl H. Cox, Jr.; and niece, Ashley Cox Schooley.

 

Randy is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sophia Reynolds Cox of Smithfield and Broadway, NC, along with his daughter, Jennifer Cox Shook (Rory), and two of his greatest blessings, grandsons Zayden and Asher, all of Broadway, NC. He is also survived by his brother Alan Rowles Cox (Vivian) of Sanford, NC; sister Debbie Scott (Bobby) of North Myrtle Beach, SC; brother in law, Chuck Reynolds (Cindy) of Cameron, NC; along with many nieces and nephews.

 

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at Shallow Well Church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Eric Brumahl officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
