Richard Eugene Coleman Sr

Richard Eugene Coleman Sr., 71, of Sanford passed away Monday June 12, 2023. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday June 24, 2023, at Sanford Church. The family will start receiving friends Saturday at 10:00 am prior to the service.

Richard was born in Franklin County, Va., and grew up there and in Bassett, Va., and Lakeland, Fl. He graduated from Kathleen Senior High School, Lakeland, and attended the College of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City, NC.

Richard was a man of strong faith. He served the lord gladly all his life. Since moving to Sanford, Richard has been a member of Sanford Church of God where he was very involved in several ministries including Caring Hearts, Men’s Ministries, and Tuesday morning Bible Study. He also served on the Church and Pastors Council. Prior to moving to Sanford, Richard taught Sunday School at his previous church.

Because of his love of music, Richard was always very active in the Choir. He loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. Richard was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved to tinker and could fix anything. Knowing this, his friends and neighbors called on him often for help.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irma and Ruby Coleman; brothers, WJ Coleman and Shelton Butler; and sisters, Norine Stone, Dorine McCoy and Jan Heslar.

He is survived by his wife Dianna Coleman; daughter Mickey Ashley (Mike); sons Richard “Ricky” Coleman Jr., David Hesselmeyer (Amanda) and Brian Hesselmeyer (Nichole); 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brother, Glenn Coleman (Marie) and Melvin Coleman.; and sisters, Joyce Grimes, and Irma Duke.
