Ruby Lanning

Ruby Thomas Lanning, 94 of Sanford passed away Tuesday December 18th . Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Friday at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Lanning was born in Lee Co, NC, a daughter of the late Edgar Phillip Thomas and Lenna Yarborough Thomas. She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Thomas. She loved gardening, fishing and the beach. She was an excellent cook, and one of the many ways she displayed her love of her children, grandchildren was cooking their favorite dishes.

Mrs. Lanning was the beloved wife of the late Edgar “Ray” Lanning, and they were married for 72 years. She met her husband Ray when he was in the army and she was a civilian worker at a facility that produced and tested glider planes.

Mrs. Lanning is survived by her son’s, Edgar “Ed” Lanning Jr (Deborah) of Graham, and Steve Lanning of Sanford; grandchildren, Candi Long (John), Garth Lanning, Rachel Carlyle (Josh), Jacklyn Eggleton (Brennan), Matthew Lanning (Meagan), Jaycie Morton (Brett), Wendy Cox (Brett), Andy Siegner (Tammy), Adam Siegner (Melissa), Erin Bullis (Brandon), many great grandchildren, and a sister, Audrey Siegner (AG) of Sanford.

The family will receive friends at the Church starting at 2:00pm Friday.
