Samuel Leo Carter

Samuel Leo “Sam” Carter, 77 of Sanford passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Westfield. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Tramway Baptist Church in Sanford at 4pm. The family will receive friends beginning at 2pm prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Carter was born in Jacksonville, NC a son of the late James Arthur Carter and Huby Grace Humphrey Carter. Sam was a retired educator. He was an English teacher and a guidance counselor. Sam enjoyed playing games with his friends. He played hearts at the Enrichment Center as well as bingo at Westfield. He also enjoyed creating art and gifting to everyone who came by to visit with him. 

He was active in community organizations throughout his life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Janet Tabor Carter and brothers Rick Carter and Danny Carter. 

Mr. Carter is survived by his daughter, Amanda Brooke Carter; brother Don Carter; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

The family would like to thank all of the employees at Westfield who helped care for Sam over the past year and a half.
