Samuel Embre Todd, 91, of Sanford, NC went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 15, 2016. Born July 26, 1924, in Harnett County, he was the son of John Edward Todd and Rosa Matthews Todd. He married Shirley Thelma Brown on October 12, 1947 and she preceded him in death on September 8, 1991.
Sam is survived by his two children Phil Todd (Lynn) and Anita Parker (Ray); his brother J. E. Todd; his sister Rosella Harrington (Johnnie); five grandchildren, Phillip Todd (Lisa), John Todd (Jennifer), John Bishop (Kelly), Scott Bishop (Blair), Todd Bishop and ten great grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Sam was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in both WWII and the Korean War.
Following the Navy, he returned to Rocky Mount, NC and began a long career with Pemberton, Inc., where he would work until his retirement in 1989.
In his retirement, Sam and Shirley relocated to Sanford, NC and joined as members of Shallow Well Church in Sanford, NC.
Sam enjoyed baking pies and canning preserves for friends and family, working in his garden, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank special friends Myrtle Rae and Sammy Poe plus Sam’s care givers: Barbara Cook, Donna Sloan, Delorah Earp, Ed Byrnes, Samantha Eller, Gloria Smith and Marla Lawrence and staff as well as the staff at Crystal Coast Hospice House.
Visitation 1:30 p.m. and Celebration of Life service at 2:30 p.m. on July 19, 2016 at Shallow Well Church, 1220 Broadway Rd., Sanford, NC.
