Sarah "Sally" Patterson

Sarah (Sally) Wicker Patterson, 91, died August 22, 2016 at home with family. She was born in Cameron, N.C. on May 10, 1925 to Walter Malcom Wicker and Mary Lee Ritter Wicker.

Graveside services for family and friends will be held at Buffalo Cemetery on Sunday afternoon, August 28th at 1:00, followed by a celebration of life at First Baptist Church of Sanford, N.C. at 2:00.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Orus (Pat) Fuquay Patterson, Jr, brothers Carlton Elbert Wicker and Walter Vernon Wicker. She is survived by her brother Paul Julian Wicker (Jo Ann), sons Orus Fuquay Patterson III (Sara), Marquis Wicker Patterson, Joel Brent Patterson (Kim), and daughter Mary Patterson Brinker (Bill), thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

Sally was a member of the Dogwood Garden Club, Picwic Book Club, Questers and Fideles Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Sanford, N.C. She served on the flower committee and grounds committee as well as taught boy scouts, girl scouts and brownie scouts for many years.

Her love of gardening was her and Pat’s passion. She and Pat opened their garden to the public on Mother’s Day weekend for 14 consecutive years. She was a wonderful sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

The detail in which her memory could recall her past allowed her to weave stories that are unsurpassed. These stories may very well be what we cherish most.
