Shelia Kay Love Melby, 74 of Sanford peacefully passed away Saturday December 28, 2024 at home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday January 1st at Good News Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery.

 

Kay was born in Sanford, daughter of the late Eugene “Skinny” Love and Irela Baker Love. She was preceded in death by her son Shawn Melby and a brother, Eddie Love.

 

Kay is survived by her husband, Robert B. “Bobby” Melby Jr, daughter, Shannon Melby Freeman; son Brandon Melby; four grandchildren, Asher Freeman, Brayden Melby, Alayna Melby, and Makayla Melby; sister in law’s, Juana Love and Bert Holt; many nieces and nephews.

 

She loved spending time with her grandkids, her kids, attending Good News Baptist Church, and UNC basketball. She enjoyed her 31 years working with Kendale Pawn Shop and the employees there who are her extended family.

 

The family will receive friends at the Church from 12:00 until 1:30 Wednesday prior to the service.
