Shirley Jean Kouneski

Shirley Jean Kemp Kouneski, 68 of Sanford passed away Wednesday June 1, 2016.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Shirley was born in Baltimore, MD to Virginia Beall Kemp of Catonsville, MD and the late Everett Kemp.  Shirley attended Garrison High School in Baltimore, MD.  After marrying Robert in June of 1963, Shirley worked in Linthicum, MD and spent many years working as a Deli manager for Whitey’s Supermarket. Shirley and Robert relocated to Sanford, NC in 2004 to be near their oldest son and three of their grandchildren.  Shirley took ill in May of 2015 and succumbed to her illness on June 1, 2016 at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in Pinehurst, NC, surrounded by family.

Mrs. Kouneski is survived by her husband Robert J. Kouneski of Sanford, NC, two sons: Michael (Carelease) Kouneski of Blythewood, SC and Timothy (Roberta) Kouneski of Linthicum, MD; Four grandchildren, Keisha, Monae, Caroline, and Christopher; Two sisters, Relma Dixon, Linda Blackwell and one sister and law, Eva Kouneski. Shirley also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, all located in Maryland.
