Sumiko Middlebrooks

Sumiko “Mickey” Middlebrooks was born April 20, 1925 in Tokyo, Japan. She passed away peacefully on September 23 at UNC Hospice in Pittsboro, NC. A Memorial service to be held at St. Stephens Church on Friday September 28th @ 10am. Private burial will be held at Sandhills Veterans Cemetery in Ft. Bragg, NC.

Mickey was preceded in death by her husband, James Middlebrooks. She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Susan Madden of Sanford, NC and Michele Klasson of Durham, NC; 4 grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Madden of Atlanta, Ga., Dr. Kristin Madden of Durham, NC, Michael Madden of Sanford, NC and Ashleigh Green of NYC, NY; one great granddaughter, Camille Sanchez. Sumiko was the oldest of seven children. She is survived by her sister Miyoko and brother Akinari. She was predeceased by her sisters Hiroko and Ikuko and brothers Toru and Hsiao.

Sumiko was an excellent homemaker, volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 15 years, and was a member of St. Stephens Catholic church since 1985.
