Thelma Mae Fuquay Smith

Thelma Mae Fuquay Smith, 86, of Sanford passed away Tuesday March 7, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday at Spring Lane Assembly of God. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends at the Church starting at 10:00 am Friday.

Mrs Smith was born in Lillington to the late Lemuel James Fuquay and Jessie Thelma Christian Fuquay. She graduated Lillington High School in 1956 and was a faithful member of her beloved Church. She loved to craft and made ceramics, quilts, cloth dolls, and crocheted, all of which she gave away as gifts. She was preceded in death by her husband MSGT US Air Force retired Percy Lee Smith, with whom she enjoyed travel throughout his career and retirement. In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by her grandson Jason Richter; sister Kathryn Nurnberg; and brothers in law Leroy Nurnberg and Lloyd Bumgarner.

She is survived by daughters Deborah Estes (Phillip) and Cynthia Ellen Smith; son David Lee Smith (Kimberly); grandson Brandon Richter; great grandson Jaydon Masdon; sisters Laura Ellen Jones (Earl) and Patricia Bumgarner.
