Thomas Marion Lawton

Thomas Marion “Tommy” Lawton, 92 of Sanford, passed away Wednesday November 1, 2023. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at Carbonton Community Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service in the Sanctuary.

Mr. Lawton was born in Union Co, SC son of the late DG Lawton and Louise Herrington Lawton. He was preceded in death by his wife Johnnie Jean Herron Lawton, grandson Matthew Coore; and brothers Arnold Lawton and Lewis Lawton. Tommy was a family man who loved children, coaching softball and Little League baseball. He worked for the City of Sanford for 20 years.

Mr. Lawton is survived by his daughters, Karen L Griffin (Randy) of Pittsboro, and Sharon L Sawyer (Randy) of Sanford; one son, Arnold Brent Lawton of Moncure; four grandchildren, Samuel Griffin, Heather Weir, Whitney Burgess, and Lawton Sawyer (Jessica); eight great grandchildren, Natalie Coore, Kayla Coore, Colin Weir, Abbigail Weir, Jayden Burgess, Jordyn Burgess, Savannah May Sawyer and Sadie Gray Sawyer; brother Ricky Lawton; and sister Dorothy Womble (Wayne).
