W. Scott Swindell, Jr.

W. Scott Swindell, Jr., 81, of Sanford passed away Tuesday October 16, 2018. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday at Jonesboro United Methodist Church. A private family committal will be held at the First Baptist Church Columbarium. The family will greet friends following the Memorial Service in the Wesley Center.

Mr. Swindell was born in New Bern, NC son of the late Winfield Scott Swindell Sr and Josephine Laster Swindell. Scott came to Sanford in 1961 as the Director of City Parks and Recreation. Later he served as President of the Chamber of Commerce for five plus years, then following up his career in Real Estate, retiring as part owner with Adcock and Associates. As a graduate of North Carolina State University, Mr. Swindell was an avid Wolfpack fan and Co-Chaired the Lee Co Chapter of the Wolfpack Club with Fletcher Rosser for 20 plus years.

Mr. Swindell is survived by his wife, Susan Turlington Swindell; his children, W. Scott Swindell III and wife Kay Rouse Swindell, Robert Frank Swindell and wife Cindy Zeph Swindell, Elizabeth “Liz” Swindell Garner and husband James R. Garner, and Evelyn Swindell Sloan and fiancé Frank Rugh; seven grandchildren, W. Scott Swindell IV, Sarah Elizabeth Swindell, Emily Elizabeth Garner, Anna Katherine Swindell, Hannah Leigh Garner, Justin Brock Sloan, and Lauren Brooke Sloan.
