William Joseph "Billy Joe" Yow

September 12, 1935 — February 5, 2017

William Joseph "Billy Joe" Yow, Sr., went to be with the Lord on Sunday February 5, 2017 at his resident in Scotts Hill, NC. Funeral services will be 12:00pm Friday February 10, 2017 at Center United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

 

Billy was born in Sanford, NC on September 12, 1935. He grew up in the Pocket community, an only child, to the late Jesse Clayton Yow and Lessie Tillman Yow. Billy graduated from Greenwood High School and attended Central Carolina Community College where he graduated with honors and a degree in Accounting and Business Administration.

 

In Sanford, Billy Joe worked with Sacco Lowell Shops and Chatlee Boat & Marine and GKN Automotive until his retirement. He travelled extensively while at GKN to other parts of the world. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church. He retired to Scott’s Hill and attended the Wesleyan Chapel and Four Oaks United Methodist Churches where his eldest son, Reverend William Joseph Yow, Jr. is the pastor.

 

He is survived by his beloved wife, Gearl Dean Yow (Geri) whom he has known since childhood; sons Rev. William Joseph(Joey) Yow, Jr. and wife Julie of Four Oaks and Michael Jay Yow of Scotts Hill; daughter, Angela Joy(Yow) Robinson and husband Mike of Scotts Hill and White Plains, NY; four grandchildren, Michael Jay Yow, Jr. and wife Kate of Plano Texas, Lindsay Rosenbaum and husband Blake of Broken Arrow, OK, Jenna Yow of Lake Junaluska, NC and Zachary Houston of Charlotte, NC ; step-grandchildren Michael Kent Robinson of New Orleans, La and Patrick Robinson, Jr of Wilmington, NC. Billy had two special dogs, Kalvin and Katie, whom he loved dearly.

 

 

Billy Jo was s loving father, grandfather, and husband. He was loved by so many people. He enjoyed NASCAR, Carolina Basketball, and everything about the beach, especially fishing.

 

The family will receive friends Friday following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.

 

In memory of Billy Joe, take a walk on the beach with someone you love.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Center Methodist Church, 4141 Plank Road, Sanford, NC 27330 or Four Oaks United Methodist Church, PO Box 177, Four Oaks, NC 27524.

 

The family would like to tank each person for the many acts of love extended to Billy in so many ways during his illness and may God bless you. Caring for Billy was one of the greatest and most rewarding experiences of our lifetime. We are so thankful and grateful to God.
